In recent years, the MWD and its related technologies have developed rapidly, expanding applications, the overall trend is from the cable while drilling  to a wireless MWD gradually  and MWD parameters growing vigorously, to develop wireless MWD technology is the current major direction of petroleum engineering technology development. 

MWD in new equipment is concerned, the major foreign manufacturers in recent years has introduced apparatus which has more features, meeting the higher demands , such as: USA NL Sperry-Sun company, Scientific Drilling companies and French companies such as GeoServices in order to meet the under-balanced Construction of drilling requirement, each developed a wireless electromagnetic measurement-while-drilling system ,which can read display adding  natural gamma ray logging  instruments easily. 

Solar175TM high temperature measuring system Sperry-Sun's company can  reliably measure  orientation parameters and the gamma numerical value  at 175 ℃ high temperature environment, heat capacity is up to 200 ℃, pressure capacity is up to 22000psi. 

Anadrill company introduced a new wireless MWD apparatus PowerPulserTM  with a historical significance . It adopts a new design ,simplifies the repairing process, simple to operate in the scene, and can achieve 1000h MTBF targets; it transmit pulse signal using continuous wave, compressing coding technology and enables data transmission speed by nearly 10 times. 

Domestic companies and research institutes are dedicated to wireless measurement-while-drilling technology, developed a limited number of wireless MWD apparatus, and put into commercial operation. 

The wireless with the measurement while drilling technology still has a larger space for development. From the Petroleum Engineering market demand, this paper comprehensively introduced major development and application of wireless MWD technology both at home and abroad, and pointed out the applied characteristics of various types of  equipment  and the wireless MWD technology development according the use of various types of equipment, it has great significance to improve domestic Wireless MWD technical level.
